What Is a Bonnell Spring Mattress System?
A Bonnell spring mattress uses a traditional interconnected spring system in which hourglass-shaped steel coils are linked together by helical wires. The springs work together as one support unit to provide a stable, resilient and supportive sleeping surface.
Bonnell springs remain a popular mattress foundation because they combine reliable support, good airflow, durability and affordability. The comfort of the finished mattress, however, is not determined by the spring system alone.
By varying the foam, padding, quilting and surface comfort layers above the spring core, a Bonnell mattress can be manufactured in different comfort levels — from a practical Basic model through Classic Comfort to a more luxurious Intenz Comfort model.

Typical Bonnell Spring Mattress Construction
The Bonnell spring unit forms the main support core, while the layers above and below it are selected to create the required comfort, protection and finished appearance.
1. Cover & Quilting
The outer fabric and quilting contribute to the appearance, surface feel and initial comfort of the mattress.
2. Comfort & Padding Layers
Foam, fibre and other cushioning materials are used above the spring system to create the desired firmness, cushioning and comfort level.
3. Insulator Layer
An insulator pad helps separate the comfort materials from the spring unit and provides a protective barrier between the coils and upper layers.
4. Bonnell Spring Support Core
The interconnected hourglass-shaped steel coils form the primary support structure of the mattress and provide a traditional resilient spring feel.
5. Bottom Cover
A durable bottom fabric protects the underside of the mattress and completes the finished construction.
